Messi was unable to play in Sunday's 1-1 draw between Miami and Orlando City because of his "day to day" status, according to coach Gerardo Martino.
Prior to Inter Miami's US Open Cup final match against Houston Dynamo on Wednesday, Lionel Messi sat out the team's training session because of an uncertain return to play.
Miami has a chance to add to its Leagues Cup title from last month by winning its second prize since Messi joined the team in the final.
Coach Gerardo Martino stated that Messi's status is "day to day," therefore he was unable to play in Miami's 1-1 tie at Orlando City on Sunday.
It is still unknown whether Messi is merely experiencing exhaustion as a result of his demanding schedule since joining the team in July or if he is dealing with an injury.
Martino has made reference to previous "scars" that the player is dealing with, but no specific injuries have been mentioned.
Later on Tuesday, when Martino is scheduled to speak to the media, more specific information regarding Messi's participation in the match might be revealed.
Messi and Jordi Alba, two members of his former Barcelona club, were not participating in the first 15 minutes of Inter's training session that was available to the media.Messi's participation in the game could be clarified more when Martino speaks to the media later on Tuesday.
Since being replaced in the 88th minute of Argentina's World Cup qualifying match against Ecuador on September 7, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has struggled.
