To reach his tenth US Open championship, Djokovic defeats Shelton.

On Sunday, Djokovic will try to become the first player to match Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam victories.

On Friday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Novak Djokovic defeated American Ben Shelton, 20, by using his knowledge to defeat the challenger 6-3, 6-2, 7-6(4) and advance to his 10th U.S. Open final.
Shelton's massive serve had confounded opponents in New York, but second seed Djokovic, 36, was able to draw on his experience to thwart the young American's third-set comeback.

The winner of the match between top seed and reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz and third seed Daniil Medvedev will be his next opponent.

Djokovic will resume his quest for his 24th Grand Slam victory to tie Margaret Court's singles record on Sunday knowing that he will return to the top of the world rankings when they are updated following the tournament.
