In an Indian Super League (ISL) encounter on Friday, NorthEast United FC put on a commanding display to smash Chennaiyin FC 3-0.

While Chennaiyin FC suffered its second straight loss when it fell to Odisha FC, NorthEast United FC managed to win its first match of the competition after losing its opening match to Mumbai City FC.

The Highlanders, who were at the peak of their game at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Centre, scored one goal each through Parthib Gogoi, Phalguni Singh, and Asheer Akhtar.

Gogoi gave NorthEast United FC the lead in the 42nd minute. Romain Philippoteaux aided him as he executed a right-footed shot brilliantly from outside the area and placed the ball in the top right corner.

Phalguni, who received a cross from Nestor Albiach, quickly helped NorthEast United double their lead after the interval. He had no trouble sending the ball into the bottom right corner.

After Akhtar scored his team's third goal in extra time, the Highlanders were able to extend their lead for the remainder of the match.
