Tuesday's Durand Cup Group B match between Mumbai City FC and Jamshedpur FC ended in a 5-0 Mumbai City FC triumph, giving them their second straight victory. Mumbai City FC, who are now ranked first in Group B, scored goals from Jorge Pereyra Diaz twice, Alberto Noguera once, Yoell Van Nieff once, and Vikram Partap Singh once. In less than 20 seconds after Phurba Lachenpa saved a shot from Bivan Laskar, Jamshedpur FC forced another save from him. However, Mumbai City FC eventually rediscovered their rhythm and dominated right up to the very end. Greg Stewart's free shot struck the crossbar, and Mehtab Singh made JFC custodian Mohit Singh Dhami make a save.
Mumbai was able to score through Diaz in the seventh minute. Diaz was free inside the box thanks to a superb interchange play between Greg Stewart and Vikram on the right, and he finished with the utmost ease to give the Islanders the lead.
In the 14th minute, Diaz added a second goal to double their advantage. Diaz was in the box when Bipin Singh's cross was there, and he finished expertly.
Mumbai City increased the pressure on the inexperienced Jamshedpur FC team, and Dhami did a commendable job of maintaining the 2-0 lead.
Noguera, who chipped the ball above Dhami to assist his team conclude the first half with 14 shots on Jamshedpur's goal, scored the third goal for MCFC, though, very quickly.
In the opening seconds of the second half, van Neiff skillfully converted a Greg Stewart corner into the Islanders' fourth goal of the contest.
When Jamshedpur lost the ball in their own half, Stewart passed it to Vikram, who finished with a diving header, to score Mumbai City FC's fifth goal seven minutes later.
FC Goa Triumphant
Tuesday's 6-0 thrashing of Shillong Lajong by FC Goa marked the start of their Durand Cup campaign. Noah Sadaoui recorded his second hat-trick of the competition.
Along with Noah, Goa also received goals from Rowllin Borges, Victor Rodriguez, and Carlos Martinez, two Spanish players, to hand Shillong Lajong their second defeat of the competition.
Keeping the Shillong Lajong side on its toes, Noah was doing what he does best. Rowllin gave the Gaurs the lead in the fifteenth minute. Devendra Murgaokar flicked on Brandon Fernandes' free-kick, which went into the path of Rowllin, who calmly finished past Rajat Paul Lyngdoh.
Within five minutes, Goa scored once more as Devendra Murgaokar was assisted by Brandon's through ball. Devendra gave Noah a selfless pass over the advancing custodian, and Noah simply needed to touch the ball into an open goal to double their lead.
Goa didn't need to wait very long.
Nothing changed in the second half as Goa continued to play offensive football and keep possession.
As he set up the fourth goal, Noah was actively participating in all Goa activities. He passed it to left defender Sanson Pereira, who found substitute Rodriguez in the centre of the box and assisted him in finishing past the custodian in the 68th minute.
