Malinga will return to the Mumbai Indians as its bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2024 season, replacing Shane Bond.

Prior to the IPL 2024 season, Shane Bond will be replaced as the Mumbai Indians' bowling coach by former Sri Lankan spinner Lasith Malinga.

Malinga won five IPL championships with the Mumbai Indians before retiring in 2021 and taking a coaching position with the Rajasthan Royals.

Malinga participated in 139 games for Mumbai and recorded 195 wickets. The IPL saw 170 of them, which ranks sixth in the competition's history.
Bond, who has been a member of Mumbai since 2015, assumed the role of the franchise's global head of performance at the start of this year when teams in the UAE (ILT20), South Africa (SA20), and the USA (Major League Cricket) T20 competitions were introduced.
Malinga played for the MI New York team during the first MLC season, which saw it defeat Seattle Orcas by seven wickets on July 31 to win the championship.
