Erling Haaland, a striker for Manchester City, scored twice as the Premier League champions defeated promoted Burnley 3-0 on Friday at Turf Moor to get the new campaign underway.
Haaland put his team ahead after four minutes for City, who won the Premier League triple last season with 52 goals overall and a Premier League season record 36 goals.
The only blemish on City's record was a first-half injury to Kevin de Bruyne, who was forced off due to a superb finish by the Norwegian in the 36th minute.
After 75 minutes, Rodri scored City's third goal from close range to send Burnley, led by former City captain Vincent Kompany, back to the Championship with a humiliating defeat.
Burnley's agony was made even worse as substitute Anass Zaroury was dismissed in the final seconds for a violent hit on Kyle Walker.
