Top games to watch during the October 2023 international break

During the October international break of the 2023–24 season football viewers around the world shift to international matches, including friendlies, UEFA European Championship qualifiers, and CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

  1. Italy vs England 

The Italian football team is looking to spoil England manager Gareth Southgate's unbeaten streak on October 18. England are the only team from Group C to lose in Euro 2024 qualifying games. Italy, second in Group C, look set to break England's winning streak at Wembley Stadium. The reverse fixture was played at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Italy and England won 2–1.


2. Brazil vs Uruguay

Brazil, the second-ranked team in the FIFA world rankings, will visit Uruguay in another crucial match of the CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. After breaking a few records during the international break in September, Neymar cemented his name permanently in Brazilian history. The Al-Hilal megastar will be keen to continue doing so as he recently welcomed his daughter with fiance Bruna Biancardi.


3. France vs Netherlands

On October 14, two heavyweight teams, France and the Netherlands, will compete. The reverse fixture for Group B of the Euro Qualifiers will be played at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, Netherlands. After Argentina defeated France in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final, the French team defeated the Dutch team 4-0. The home team is now desperate for revenge.

4. Scotland vs Spain

After five games in Group A of the UEFA Euro qualifiers, Scotland currently top the group. They have been playing brilliantly and have won five matches in a row in this qualifying. Spain also lost 2-0 when they visited Hampden Park in Scotland in March. Spain scored 13 goals during the September international break while conceding just one goal in two wins from the qualifying matches. This match will be held on October 13.


5. Argentina vs Peru

Wednesday, October 18, 2022 FIFA World Cup champions Argentina will face Peru in an exciting match. Argentina are one of two teams in the CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers to have won after two match days. Brazil is another country. Peru, currently fifth in the CONMEBOL FIFA rankings, will be keen to win and move up the rankings. The match will be held at the Estadio Nacional de Lima in Peru.


6. Belgian vs Austria

The two teams will battle it out for the final two spots in another Euro 2024 thriller on October 14. It will be held at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, Austria, and is a Group F match. Both the teams have played five games, in which both the teams are on 13 points. Belgium is in first place due to high goal difference. Austria will want to take advantage of their home ground.


7. Slovakia vs Portugal


One of the interesting ties on October 14 will be Slovakia looking to avoid a second defeat in their rematch. The previous match between Portugal and Slovakia was won by Cristiano Ronaldo's country with a score of 1-0. In Euro Qualifier Group J, the 2016 European champions went on an impressive six-game winning streak. Slovakia will be aiming to break that unbeaten streak and consolidate their current second place position.


8. Turkey vs Croatia

Friday, 13 October UEFA European Championship Qualifier Group D match Turkey vs Croatia. The beautiful Opus Arena will host a match between the football teams of Croatia and Turkey.
