Kim Il Gyong of North Korea continues to dominate the weightlifting world by breaking records.

Kim Il Gyong won the gold medal in the women's 59kg division by setting a new snatch record of 111kg.

As North Korea continued to rule at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on its comeback to international competition after a four-year absence, a third women's weightlifting world record was smashed on Monday.

Kim Il Gyong won the gold medal in the women's 59kg division by setting a new snatch record of 111kg. Kim Il Gyong appears to have last participated in an international competition as a 14-year-old junior in 2018.

The 20-year-old then lifted 135 kg in the clean and jerk to finish with a total weight of 246 kg, beating off previous world record holder in the snatch event Kuo Hsing-chun of Taiwan for third place. Luo Shifang of China took second place.

We train in fantastic facilities much like athletes from other NOCs. When asked how lifters from her country were able to break so many world records, Kim responded, "We are dedicated and really committed to our preparation.

Later, Rim Un Sim successfully added the women's 64kg title to the 69kg gold she had won in Jakarta five years earlier. However, she was unsuccessful in her effort to break the snatch world record at 118kg.

The opening weightlifting competition of the Hangzhou Games, the women's 49kg, saw Ri Song Gum break two world marks on Saturday.

The 24-year-old Kang Hyong Yong, who has no prior experience competing internationally, stunned the world by setting three world records in the snatch, clean, and jerk, as well as the combined, her route to winning the women's 55kg gold medal.

The 55kg Olympic and world champion, Hidilyn Diaz, came in fourth.

Diaz, the lone Filipino athlete to ever win an Olympic gold, is preparing for the Paris Games.

Since the 55kg division will not be included in the 2024 Olympics, she will lift in the higher weight division there.

Five years ago, in Jakarta, Diaz won the gold medal in the now-extinct 53kg division at the Asian Games.

The 32-year-old Diaz, who will compete in her sixth Olympics in 2016, said, "I'm pushing myself to the limit for this."

I'm convinced I can win gold in Paris, but to do so, I'll have to lift 107 and 135 kilogrammes.

In the 64kg division, Rim dominated a talented field, outweighing Pei Xinyi of China by 17 kg with a 251-kg total. Pei won silver.

On 222 kg, Elreen Ando of the Philippines took home the bronze.

Weightlifters from North Korea have not competed in international events since 2019 because the nation's borders were closed because to the epidemic.

Rival lifters vehemently opposed when they were due to resume action at a meeting in Cuba in June, claiming the North Koreans hadn't had a drug test since 2019.
