Euro 2028: Italy and Turkey will host the 2032 edition; the UK and Ireland will host the European Championship.

Among the contenders to be chosen as host cities are Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Dublin, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Manchester, and Newcastle.

The sporting organisation of the continent, UEFA, declared on Tuesday that the United Kingdom and Ireland have been chosen to host Euro 2028.

The continental event is scheduled to be announced in 2032 by Turkey and Italy. Turkey pulled out of the running to host the competition in 2028 in order to strengthen ties with Italy.

Among the contenders to be chosen as host cities are Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Dublin, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Manchester, and Newcastle.

Even with questions about the country's ability to complete a large construction project to build and upgrade the stadiums needed for a tournament consisting of 24 teams playing 51 games, Italy seemed certain to win any contested vote for 2032.

If Italy and Turkey both have to supply just five stadiums, UEFA wins control over the organisation even though its own bid regulations stipulate that only nearby member federations may propose co-hosting.

Travelling by air takes more than two hours, and the distance between Rome and Istanbul is approximately 1,400 kilometres (870 miles) across the Mediterranean and Aegean seas.

While Turkey and Italy will both automatically qualify as hosts for Euro 2032, UEFA will not grant the 2028 hosts five automatic spots. One possibility is to place all five in conventional qualifying groups and give the automatic spots to the non-qualifiers with the two best records.
