In New York on Thursday, Indian Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden defeated Frenchmen Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in straight sets to go to the US Open final, continuing their incredible run. Bopanna will participate in his second Grand Slam men's doubles final in this match. The French combination was defeated 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 by the sixth seeded Indo-Australian duo, who had advanced to the Wimbledon Championships semifinals this year.
With this accomplishment, the 43-year-old Indian also broke the Open era record for the oldest player to make it to a Grand slam final. Daniel Nestor of Canada, who was 43 years and 4 months old when he participated in a Major final, had a record that Bopanna broke by two months.
Interestingly, Bopanna also competed in his first Major final at the US Open in 2010 with Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi.
At the Louis Armstrong stadium, Bopanna and Ebden will face the winner of the other semifinal between the American teams Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury and Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek from Croatia and the United States.
Having lost in the second round of the mixed doubles competition with her Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi, Bopanna is already eliminated.
