Why is the Hangzhou edition of the esports tournament FIFA Online dubbed EA Sports FC?

Although FIFA has made a hint that it is working on releasing a game of its own shortly, previous versions of the FIFA esports game will continue to go by their old name.

India will compete in four esports disciplines at the Asian Games 2023, including League of Legends, EA Sports FC, DOTA 2, and Street Fighter V: Champions Edition. This would be the first time that esports will be included as a competitive event in the competition.

FIFA Online 4 has garnered the most attention of the four due to its unique moniker. On all authorised Asian Games networks, the game will go by a new moniker.

Why is EA Sports FC the name of FIFA Online?

After the contract between the International Football Association (FIFA) and Electronic Arts (EA) expired on December 31, 2022, FIFA Online 4 (also known as FIFAe) was renamed to EA Sports FC.
With over 328 million units sold, the 30-year-old deal between EA and FIFA is one of the best-selling video games. But in 2022, EA opted to use their own game from the next edition rather than paying FIFA a "premium fee."

As a result, FIFA 23 will be the final installment of the venerable franchise (as a pair), and the new version of the game will be called EA Sports FC 24 when it launches globally on September 29, 2023. The game's latest edition's cover featured Erling Haaland.

"This is what every footballer hopes for. After the game's release, the striker tweeted, "Proud to be on the cover for the first season of a new era EA Sports FC.
