The footage of Osimhen missing a penalty in the 0-0 draw against Bologna on Sunday that the Italian team released on TikTok with a high pitched voice and later removed.
On Thursday, Napoli claimed it never intended for its striker Victor Osimhen to be offended by mocking social media videos, but the Serie A club refrained from offering an apology to the Nigerian international.
A high-pitched voiced video that an Italian team released on TikTok of Osimhen missing a penalty in their 0-0 draw with Bologna on Sunday has now been removed.
Following a legal threat from Osimhen's agent Roberto Calenda, the 24-year-old footballer deleted all photos of himself wearing a Napoli jersey from his social media sites.
The team's official website had a statement that said, "To avoid any potential exploitation of the matter, Napoli would like to explicitly state that club never intended to offend or make fun of Victor Osimhen, who is an asset to the club."
Napoli flatly refused every attempt to sign the striker during the course of the summer, showing how much they valued him.
A lighthearted and playful tone is used while using expressive language on social media, and TikTok in particular. There was no ridicule or scorn intended in the Victor case.
If Victor felt offended in any way, the club had no intention of doing so.
Osimhen, Serie A's leading scorer last season with 26 goals, assisted Napoli in ending its 33-year league title drought.
In spite of the argument, he participated and scored in Napoli's 4-1 league victory over Udinese on Wednesday, bringing his season total to four goals in seven contests.
Fifth in the rankings, defending champion Napoli will play Lecce on Saturday before hosting Real Madrid in the Champions League.
