Aishwary Tomar, Swapnil Kusale, and Akhil Sheoran of India's 50m Rifle 3Ps men's team set a new world record on Friday to win the gold medal in the team competition at the 2018 Asian Games. At the Asian Games 2023, India has won seven gold medals and fifteen other medals in shooting.
India beat the previous record established by the United States in Peru last year by eight points with an amazing score of 1769. With a score of 1763, China won the silver medal, while the Republic of Korea took home the bronze with a mark of 1748.
Swapnil and Aishwary finished the qualification event with identical scores of 591, taking the top two spots and guaranteeing their spots in the next final that would take place later in the day. Notably, their outstanding efforts created brand-new benchmarks for the Asian Games qualification stage as well as for Asian shooting records.
A record 15 medals, including five gold ones, have already been won by India in the shooting competition at the continental championship, and the nation is expected to extend its winning streak over the next several days.
Swapnil, a medal hopeful in the 2016 Olympic Games in Paris, was unstoppable as he broke the Asian and Asian Games qualification marks on his way to an incredible 591.
Aishwary equaled Swapnil's score, but entered the finals and came in second owing to less shots that were closer to the bullseye (inner-10s). Aishwary had 27 "inner-10s," compared to 33 for Swapnil.
