Harry Toffolo, a defender for Nottingham Forest, was handed a five-month suspension with probation for breaking English football's betting laws, the Football Association announced on Wednesday.

Toffolo was fined $26,177 after admitting to 375 violations of gambling laws, according to the FA.

The infractions, which happened between January 22, 2014, and March 18, 2017, have not yet been fully disclosed by the FA. Up until the end of the 2024–2025 season, the ban was put on hold.

According to FA rules, participants "shall not bet, either directly or indirectly, or instruct, permit, cause, or enable any person to bet on" games or competitions. The sanctions were implemented following a hearing with an independent regulatory commission, and the full justification for the decision will be released at a later time, the FA said.

Ivan Toney, a striker for Brentford and England, was given an eight-month suspension in May on 232 instances of breaking gambling laws.

Toney's suspension lasts until January 16, 2024, but he can start practising with Brentford again the next week. He also received a $62,000 fine.

According to a report by a private panel, Toney's sentencing may have been more severe if he hadn't received a gambling addiction diagnosis.
