Thierry Henry appointed France Under-21 manager.
According to a source familiar with the negotiations, Thierry Henry was appointed coach of France's Under-21s on Monday and will be in charge of the team competing at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Sylvain Ripoll is replaced by the 46-year-old former France and Arsenal striker, who has returned to coaching after quitting his position as Belgium assistant after the 2014 World Cup.
Henry, who helped France win the 1998 World Cup and the Euro 2000, has had difficulty matching his playing and coaching accomplishments.
He lasted only three months as Monaco's head coach for the 2018–19 campaign, and in February 2021, the Montreal Impact hired a new coach after little over a year in charge.
Additionally, he has previously worked with Arsenal's junior teams and served twice as a member of the coaching staff for Belgium, which helped the nation place third at the 2018 World Cup.
In recent years, Henry, who scored 51 goals in 123 games for France, has worked as a TV consultant.
At the Olympics, he might field a lineup centred around Kylian Mbappe, the France captain who has made no secret of his desire to compete in the competition, which is mostly limited to athletes 23 years of age or younger.
Four days before his squad's opening Euro 2025 qualifier away to Slovenia, Henry's team will play a friendly against Denmark in Nancy on September 7 in his inaugural game as France Under-21 coach.
